PointsBet App | NJ, IN, IL & IA Sportsbook

PointsBet is one of the new breeds of online Sportbook breaking into the US. Available in New Jersey, and as of Feb 2020, the Sportsbook is now live in Iowa, Indiana, and now, Illinois. Fully regulated and licensed by the DGE, IRGC, and the IGC, they bring you PointsBetting – a brand new high-risk, high-reward feature that is sure to grab your attention.

Not only do they operate online, but they also have a fantastic mobile app available to download on Android devices as well as iOS, including the iPhone & iPad. Should PointsBet be your Sportsbook of choice? Is their app any good? We look to answer this and more with our guide to this new style sports betting app. We talk you through getting the app on your cell, run you through the extensive features and help with some handy tips to using this new online sportsbook for NJ, IN, IL & IA.

To download the app to your mobile, first follow these quick guides:

  • How do I get the PointsBet Android app?

There is a dedicated Android app from the Sportsbook and it is really easy to download. Go to pointsbet.com and join up to get your account details. Once logged in, click on the main menu and scroll to DOWNLOAD APP. On the new page, tap the blue DOWNLOAD button, and then OK when asked if you want to keep PointsBet APK. Once downloaded, slide down the top menu and click install. Open the app and log in.

  • How do I get the PointsBet iPhone app?

The PointsBet app for iPhone is available to download directly from iTunes. Just click on the link and go to iTunes on your iOS device, press GET and let the app download. You can then register and join straight on the app.

As a new name to the US, do they have what it takes to draw in bettors from established names like FanDuel sportsbook and DraftKings? Lets investigate!

Contents

Overview

PointsBet is an Australian bookie looking to crack the US by introducing a new and different type of Sportsbook. They aim for high stakes but high rewards. You may recognize a few familiar faces promoting them; these are former NFL All-pro Cornerback Darrelle Revis and BA Hall of Famer Allen Iverson. They seem to like it, and hey we do too! Open to all players aged 21 and over and located in New Jersey, Indiana, Illinois, or Iowa, this app gets a big thumbs up from us.

Joining PointsBet Sportsbook

You can download the app and join anywhere across the US, but you must be 21 or older, and be in the Garden State, Hoosier, or Hawkeye state lines to have a wager. It is straightforward to join. We signed up, and it took us around 6 minutes in total, even when joining on a mobile.

Head to join.pointsbet.com and click on the sign up now button. Choose your state (you can register from any US state but need to be in IN, IA, IL, or NJ to wager) you only need a few details, mainly first and last name and email. Then press continue, add in your gender, date of birth, cell number, last 4 of your SSN, set your address, and then choose a username and set a password. Click on Join PointsBet and your good to go.

PointsBet Mobile

Any decent Sportbook these days needs a great mobile app as well as downloadable versions of the platform. Why offer both? Well, not everyone bets daily, and not everyone wants to take up room on their mobile using an app. You can do nearly everything using PointsBet NJ mobile as you can using the fully downloadable versions of the apps. The mobile site will work on any device, including Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Android, iOS, or any platform. It has a responsive design, so no matter what screen size your cell or tablet use, the app will render and fit. It works great on all screen sizes and does look the business.

A complete sportsbook package is available with the book, and you can find one of the widest choices of betting options available. Betting options include – Aussie rules Football, Baseball, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Cycling, Darts, Football, Golf, Hockey, Mixed martial arts, Motorsports, Rugby Union, Soccer, and finally Tennis.

There are loads of opportunities for bettors with PointsBet, and we are particularly impressed with the market choice too. NFL and NBA offer some of the best markets on any NJ regulated app we have seen. PointsBet NJ seems to go above and beyond on what’s available with other Sportsbooks. For example, you can bet on things like quarterback completion percentage, the time, in seconds, of the first touchdown of a game. You can even bet on the time to pass a certain number of points; it’s crazy that there are so many good wagering opportunities. We counted over 200 different markets for NBA and over 100 for NHL, something for everyone.

As well as offering traditional types of bets on the app from PointsBet, such as Futures, In-play, Moneyline, Parlays, Point spread, Props, Straight bets, and Total (over/under), you can also use PointsBetting – a bet type exclusive to the bookie. They are the only ones in the world offering it on betting markets in US Sport. Now, if you don’t know what this is, this allows you to win big if your sports predictions are correct. If your bet wins by one point or unit, you will win 1 x your bet amount stake. If your bet wins by two units, you win 2 x stake. If your bet wins by ten units, you win 10 x stake and so on. But, if you lose by 1 unit, you would lose 1 x stake, lose by ten units, lose 10 x stake. So, a $100 bet that wins by 4 points will receive a $400 payout, for example. It’s a great novel way to have a wager.

Bonus information

New players to PointsBet can get themselves a nice joining bonus. Get 2 Risk-Free Bets up to $1,500! The first can be used on traditional bets up to $500, and the other $1,000 can be used on PointsBetting on the app, mobile site, or website. The offer is the same for bettors in New Jersey, Indiana, or Iowa.

To claim the offer, just use Promo Code – GUSA on the mobile or normal site at pointsbet.com. T&C’s do apply, and you must be 21 or over to claim the bonus. You can read more about the offer on our PointsBet promo code guide.

Above is just a handful of the excellent promotions available with the Sportsbook. Check out pointsbet.com for the latest offers. They did some amazing promos around Super Bowl 2020 and had some of the best odds when compared to other US sportsbooks. Even when compared to offshore books like mybookie, they were very well priced. If you want to know more about how odds work, then have a look at our guide to sports betting.

Features

Now on to the app itself, visually, it is one of the best-looking NJ sports betting apps, and now, the sportsbook is available in Iowa, Illinois & Indiana. The black color scheme with the white and red/pink text works really well. The layout on the app is pretty perfect. There is the main menu located on the left on the screen, which holds the navigation to find your way around. Here you can go to Home, Promos, Revis betting academy, Blog, Pointsbet card, Topgolf, In-Play, Next Sport, see a list of the days popular events, and then a big list of all sports. It is straightforward to navigate to the sport of choice. So let’s say you want to wager on the Football this weekend, tap the football option, and then you can see all the Next up games or a tab with All comps. Find the game you want to bet on and tap it. You can then view all the markets available, and to place your bet, tap on the odds to add your selection to the home screen. Add your stake, place the bet, and then your wager is on.

When downloading the app, just be patient, it is a big file (both Android & iOS) as it packs in a lot! It may take some seconds to download even on a good 4G or WiFi connection. If you are new to betting on your Android device, you may want to check out our guide to Android sportsbook apps.

The Android & iOS app from PointsBet are identical, and all share the same features. You can get push notification to let you know of daily offers and specials. In-play betting is also available on the app on lots of sports and is one of the best of any NJ Sportsbook we use. As the standalone Sportsbook in Iowa, there is not a lot of competition (yet……)

Cash Out is a great feature and is available on several sports and markets. This is where you can end your bet early if you don’t think it will come in. The amount of money you can get back is determined at the time of cashing out, and this will ultimately depend upon the current likelihood of the bet winning. The amount could be greater or less than the initial stake. If you have never used this feature before, read our US Sportsbooks with cash out guide to see how it can help you with your bets.

JOIN POINTSBET

Also available on the mobile app is the Darrelle Revis Betting Academy. This is a great place for all new punters to start. It takes you through how PointsBetting works in great detail, tells you about the regular bet types, and also has a handy Parlay calculator built in too. There is info on prop and future betting, and it’s a real handy read. Depositing and withdrawing can be done on the app and is very easy to do, just log in to your account and follow the on-screen instructions.

It is now an almost essential wagering tool for a book to offer a build your bet type of feature. PointsBet’s request a bet is called #Nameabet. This feature allows you to custom build your bet from a selection of markets. With a tag line of “You Name The Bet, We Price It“, you really can make your bet from scratch. If you think of a market that is not currently on the site or app, this can be for any sport or event that is offered, tweet to @PointsBetUSA, and use the hashtag #nameabet and PointsBet will Price It up, just for you!

Which states is PointsBet Sportsbook available in?

The operator is one of the fastest-growing legal US books in the market. They are making partnerships across a range of media outlets and will launch in more states soon. As it stands, you can wager with PointsBet in the following states:

  • New Jersey
  • Indiana
  • Illinois
  • Iowa

What could be improved on the app?

We love the PointsBet Sportsbook app overall, but there are a few small things that really could make this a standout performer. We would love to see live visuals during games as this makes understanding what is happening during a game a lot easier, and your ability to make more informed wagers. The iOS version of the app supports Face ID and Touch ID login, but as of yet, this is not available with Android, unfortunately. Going forward, we would also like to see the option to place teaser bets or round robin parlays as currently, you can’t.

Support

There are several ways to contact customer support should you have any issues. You can use live chat, email and also contact them via phone. Available 24/7, 365 days a year, they are excellent and respond quickly.

Banking options

One major drawback is the lack of banking options. This is not app-specific as the same methods apply on the full website and mobile site/app. You can deposit and withdraw using:

  • ACH/e-check
  • Credit/debit card
  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • Online banking
  • PointsBet prepaid card

The minimum deposit you can make at PointsBet is $5 and the maximum is currently set $50,000.

How long do withdrawals take with PointsBet?

They are generally processed in 24 hours but can sometimes take up to 5 days. For the funds to hit your account, it is usually between 3-5 working days. This does vary depending on the method you choose to withdraw by.

  • ACH/e-check – 3-5 banking days
  • Credit/debit cards – 3-5 banking days

PointsBet doesn’t charge players for credit card deposit or withdrawal fees. Learn more about the various banking and deposit/withdrawal options for NJ sportsbooks on our handy guide.

Is PointsBet Sportsbook Legal?

Yes, they are. PointsBet is legal for online and mobile sports betting in three US states (listed below). This is expected to expand very soon to include Colorado.

New Jersey – Authorized and licensed by the New Jersey DGE (Division of Gaming Enforcement) via their partnership with the Meadowlands Racetrack located in East Rutherford.

Iowa – They have mobile betting and also a retail sportsbook available at the Catfish Bend Casino. Licensed by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC).

Indiana – PointsBet is available in the state by a partnership agreement with Penn National Gaming. The operator holds a license from the Indiana Gaming Commission for online and mobile betting.

Illinois – The operator launched online on September 12, 2020. They are licensed by the Illinois Gaming Board to operate online and mobile. In addition to launching online, PointsBet will also have a retail presence in Chicago.

Final words

The PointsBet sportsbook app is in a very similar position to that of the bet365 sportsbook. They are both huge names in the gambling word outside of the US and have an excellent sportsbook product. But, they are up against some very big names in DK, FanDuel, and BetRivers. The product is good, now can they succeed in getting people to move over to the sportsbook. Only time will tell.
